Ultraviolet Whole-Room Decontamination

We are examining the effectiveness of whole-room ultraviolet devices used to decontaminate an indoor space by testing representative products in an environmental chamber at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) equipped for this purpose. If the results show significant bacterial killing potential of any versions of this equipment, a follow-up study will extend to field tests conducted in patient rooms and operating rooms.

Hypothesis: Whole-room ultraviolet decontamination will result in effectiveness of more than 99% in a maximum treatment time of two hours for all surfaces contaminated with a bacterial surrogate.
